The Cable Display contains a wide variety of cables for different use cases. The signs were created by Peter and Dale in the 2010s.
Inside Wire
Inside wire is primarily used for wiring applications inside homes and businesses. The display has three varieties:
- two pair inside wire
- three pair inside wire
- twelve pair inside wire
Drop cable
Drop cable is used to connect to facilities like central offices. The display has three varieties:
- one pair aerial drop wire
- two pair buried drop wire
- five pair self-supported aerial cable
Wire splicing
Several methods of splicing are shown:
- open wire splicing
Insulated wire
- twist splice with insulated sleeve
- B wire or "bean" connector
- Scotchlok UR2 connector
Open wire
- crimped sleeve splice
- Western Union splice
Fiber Optic Cable
There are three varieties of fiber-optic cable:
- outdoor use
- indoor use
- submarine (mentioned in the submarine section below)
High pair count cable
These cables have a pair count of 200 or more:
- lead sheathed with paper insulated wire
- 200 pair 26 gauge aerial
- 3150 pair plastic sheath with paper insulated 26 gauge wire
Submarine cable
There are several submarine cables spanning a wide range of time:
- paper insulated conductors
- plastic insulated conductors
- a segment of the Washington-Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System (WAMCATS)
