Originating Register
An originating register (OR) is a circuit in the 5XB that provides dial tone, and collects and stores digits dialed by a calling subscriber. Originating registers then pass that information off to a marker when enough digits have been collected to complete the call.
Along with the dialed digits, originating registers also temporarily store the line location and class of service of the originating caller. This information is passed to the marker along with the dialed digits.
Originating registers can also be configured with coin functionality, including coin test, and coin return, for handling calls from payphones. OR's also have timers that cause it to dispose of the call if a customer waits too long before dialing, or if a customer only dials a partial number.
There must be enough OR's supplied in a 5XB central office to account for the number of calls simultaneously dialing. Once dialing is finished, the OR drops off, and handles the next call in line.
